Strings for monochord

Original monochord was a scientific instrument of old Greeks. I had one string only and it was designed for experiments and demonstration of some acoustic principles. Today monochord has many strings (sometime over one hundred). Apart from the last string, all strings are identical with the same tuning. It creates magical sound full of overtones. Last string is usualy tunes one octave bellow other strings.

For strings for monochord you can use any string you like - any diameter and any material. However phosphor-bronze brings in our experience very best results. You can choose from our vast selection. It is defintely more economical to order coils. If you don't find coil of desired diameter in coil section, write to us, and we will provide what you desire.
